A brief introduction to Christ Church

Christ Church is an inclusive church, which welcomes parishioners of all ages to join in the weekly worship and enjoy the friendly atmosphere. The impressive church interior is bright and airy throughout the year, with detailed stained glass windows and fresh flowers.

The population in the Christ Church district reaches almost 12,000 and sits within the parish of Merton Priory in the Diocese of Southwark, which covers 300 other parishes in and around Kingston upon Thames.

The church was built in 1874, giving it a great sense of history. Despite severe damage during the Second World War the church still stands as a prominent pillar of the local Christian community. The church has wheelchair access and there is a loop system for the hard of hearing.

Gilly, our priest at the time, was on TV some years ago - on BBC1's Inside Out programme on 1 October 2008. The segment also featured the Tower Captain, Chris Stanley, teaching youngsters bellringing at Christ Church. You can watch it here.
The good news is that St John's had its new bells hung in 2014, as part of its Centenary celebrations.
